We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day as 19 of us traveled to Holmes County to meet up with our tour guide La Vonne. We met at Lehman’s Hardware, then went to an Amish home-based business; the wife and mother makes baskets. Afterwards, we went to an Amish school–probably the highlight of the trip!–where we ate pizza with some of the older kids; then we visited each classroom where we were warmly greeted with songs and recitations. From there, we went to a bulk food store at Walnut Creek, visited Behalt!–a museum tracing the history of the Amish–and made stops at a leather maker and a candle maker. We capped off our day with dinner at an Amish family’s home and buggy rides. It was a full but fun day!
