For our last field trip of the summer, we had a fun afternoon and evening going up to downtown Toledo for dinner and a Toledo Mud Hen’s baseball game followed by fireworks. We first ate at Frickers overlooking 5/3 Field; then we watched the remaining half of Friday night’s game against the Buffalo Bisons (which had been rained out) and seven innings of the regularly-scheduled game (also against Buffalo) before the fireworks began. It started raining at the tail end of our evening, but it was a fun night nonetheless with great friends!

GC and the Toledo Mud Hens!
Monday, July 26th, 2010International Seasonal Workers/Latino Picnic Fun and Games!
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010Saturday, July 10th, Global Connections celebrated their 2nd annual ISW Picnic and Household Item Drive. It was held at a housing complex on Greensburg Pike Road just south of BG.
Household items were offered for the taking. This was followed by great chili provided by GC volunteer, Rebecca Smith. Toppings, salads and desserts were served by partner church volunteers. Games including ‘balloon toss’ and ‘hit the pinata’ for children and young adults were hosted by Mercedes Nabor, another volunteer. The evening ended with donations of Welcome Bags filled with practical and fun items for teens and adults as well as goodie-filled backpacks for the children.
In all, probably 75 Latino workers and their families were served and about thirty volunteers also enjoyed the fun, food and fellowship of the night!

Ohio Adventure!
Thursday, July 1st, 2010

On June 26th sixteen International students and GC Volunteers traveled to central Ohio for a day of adventure! We began by canoeing down the cool and clear waters of the Mad River followed by a picnic lunch. Afterwards, we went to the Ohio Caverns, where a guide led us through the largest and most beautiful cave in Ohio. We arrived too late to tour the Machochee Castle, but we were able to explore the grounds and take several pictures. After some light refreshment and rest in West Liberty, we ended our day by having a delicious dinner together at an Amish farm. It was a packed but fun day!

After a potluck lunch together, we took a tour of the farm house that has been in the family for three generations, learned about the crops that Scott, his Dad, and brother farm, and then we traveled to the “home Place” just around the corner to look at the machinery used to plant and harvest crops and to look at the 1000 + pigs! Last CEC Class Picnic- A Triple Celebration!
Wednesday, May 12th, 2010
Last Wednesday we celebrated the last day of Community English Classes for the school year by having a picnic. Everyone headed to The Davis’ farm where we enjoyed a beautiful summer morning on the farm. The wooded landscape, outbuildings and pond provided the perfect setting. The weather cooperated holding off the clouds and rain till after our picnic! Our potluck of international food was as filling as it was varied.
A second celebration was the senior Mr. Davis’ birthday on the following day. A beautifully decorated birthday cake and well-wishing birthday cards were presented. The third celebration was that three expectant mothers who had also been a part of our class received small baby gifts from class members in blessing for their soon-to-be roles as parents!
