History of Global Connections

Global Connections has its origins in the separate efforts of a few Bowling Green churches, which opened their doors to and served international students at BGSU. In 2000, these churches decided to coordinate their efforts and began to explore other ways to effectively serve international students. Representatives from the three churches began meeting monthly as an informal board to facilitate these efforts. In addition, in 1999, BGSU's Center for International Programs sought assistance from these churches to help meet some of the practical needs of international students newly arriving in Bowling Green.

In 2000, the board adopted the name “Global Connections” to describe their combined effort to serve international students at BGSU. In 2003, as more churches sought to be involved with Global Connections, and as more and more opportunities were presented, the board decided to incorporate Global Connections and to seek funding to hire a part-time director. Today, Global Connections is made up of eleven local churches and ministry organizations and is headed up by its part-time director, Julie George.
